Girls Day Out

This past Sunday, we had a fun and memorable day at the State Fair of Texas. Mama Bird, Jewel, Nana, and BB braved the colder temperatures and drizzle to eat some corny dogs and see the Mary Poppins musical. Jewel experienced a lot of firsts today!! She rode on public transportation: we rode the DART from downtown to Fair Park. She attended her first State Fair. I couldn't believe all she ate: a corndog, caramel apple wedges, part of a pretzel, some diet coke, and cotton candy. Mama Bird's tummy hurts just thinking about all of that!!

Before the musical, we were able to walk around and Jewel was able to ride some of the rides. She loved the canoe ride...pretty tame.

She talked Nana into riding the Teacups with her.

BB got to experience the Ladybug ride with Jewel, which wasn't too bad going forward, but then they changed direction and went backwards...really fast!!

After all of the food and fun, we made our way to Mary Poppins at the Music Hall. Jewel had been waiting to see this for quite awhile. From the moment the curtain went up, she was mesmerized. The songs, dancing, costumes, and magic were incredible. Jewel couldn't quite figure out how they did it all. At one point, "Bert" walked up the side of the stage, across the ceiling, and then back down...pretty cool. The BEST part was when Mary Poppins "flew" through the air up and over the audience. She came pretty close to the upper level balcony. Wow!!
Needless to say, Jewel had the time of her life. :) She couldn't wait to get home to tell Scooter and Bubba. She has already picked out our show for next season...Shrek the Musical...ughh.
BTW, we were unaware that while we were there, Oprah and Gayle were at the fair filming a few segments for her show. We saw a huge crowd at the Fletcher's Corny Dog stand, but didn't know why there were so many people wanting a corny dog at 11:00 am.
