The Bird Lady

As is part of Nana and Papa's routine, we drove to St. Louis and stayed with my Uncle John and Aunt Debbie the night before we left. They have two talking birds, Shadow and Roscoe (which Jewel kept calling Rascal). Papa had told her stories about the birds on our drive to St. Louis. Needless to say, she couldn't wait to get there and see them for herself!

Jewel and Roscoe. He is a Malouken Cockatoo. He's a screamer, so he stayed in time out most of the time we were there.Jewel and Shadow. He is an African Grey. Boy is he a talker!! Don't know if he could out talk Jewel, but it would be a close contest. I think Shadow was a little scared of all of us and didn't talk a whole lot, but Uncle John told us lots of things he will say, and Jewel tried to coax Shadow to say them. :) She thought it was so neat that he drinks coffee with Uncle John every morning. Bubba could have cared less about the birds...he loved all of the stairs! Uncle John made some great pizzas for dinner, and we even got to see my cousin K and meet her boyfriend. Thank you!!

Thankfully the plane ride back home went a little bit better. I got smart and bought a large lollipop for Bubba (and Jewel) to keep him entertained. He sat on my lap and talked to me while shoving the lollipop in his mouth the entire takeoff. Yes!! He played with his cars and munched on some snacks during the flight and made some new friends with the passengers behind us. He got a little testy on the descent and didn't want to sit on my lap, so I put him in the seat next to me and held him down (don't tell the flight attendant) and he did great!
